Beech Wood Boards - Specifications

Processed semi-product for production of beechwood jointed boards are beechwood balks, kiln – dried in modern chamber driers (made by Mühlblock) – in service 2 years. Balks are dried to 8 – 10 % of humidity content, graded by color. Individual balks are set together by wedge cog to a specified length. Glued boards are patterned in right angles, rectangles and squares.

Production comprises the following machinery: four sided planer - TOS Svitavy a.s., Grecon Dimter – for joining boards, six head four sided plane cutter – Weining, wide – band sander – Paul Ott, two hydraulic presses for max. plate width of 900 mm, length 5.000 mm, press pressure 70 Bars

Boadrs are delivered according to the following grading:

Quality A/B

A : face side
In color harmony, tranquil.

Required: no running in heartwood, no bird¨s eye over 3 mm in diameter, no sign of knots or condensed vapor, no blue stains, no distinctive wood marks, no defects in planing, no trace of open saw teeth points, technicaly perfect, joints must be properly pressed together, no defects in the glueing process, no open fissures etc.

B : rear side
Marks of discoloration, distinctive but technicaly perfect. ´

Required: no runnings in heartwood, knots, blue stains, spots after being stacked and no defects in planing, without open saw teeth marks, no defects in glueing, some limited minor defects in wood coloration accepted and minor mending using sealing cement allowed. This quality is produced from four side clear balks.

Quality B/B heartwood free

This quality is produced in the same way as quality A/B – four side clear balks. Darker color shade of material accepted, after drying limited color defects of wood accepted. Healthy ingrown bird¨s eye up to 3 mm in diameter accepted. Share of black and brown heartwood, black runnings and knots not accepted. Otherwise the same applies as for rear side in quality A/B.

Quality B/C heartwood – one side only
Face side as with quality B, rear side with unlimited share of heartwood, ingrown bird¨s eye – 3 mm of diameter accepted. Limited minor wood marks accepted, having no black heartwood runnings, technicaly perfect.
This particular quality is produced from at least one side clear balks.

Quality C/C heartwood – both sides
Face side: color distinctive, share of black and brown heartwood, undamaged ingrown eyes up to 3 mm in diameter accepted, no black runnings and larger knots.
Rear side: unlimited share of black and brown heratwood, black runnings and knotless, technicaly flawless.

Quality C/D
This type of quality is produced out of bluestained balks, greyish, black heartwood and with a share of knots. Must be technicaly flawless. All claims for replacement of this quality only accepted if having defects of technical nature.
This quality is produced in limited quantities only. Even this quality must meet all specified mechanical standards applying to previous ones.
